#Deepen-teacher-inquiry - Ah-ha Moments Continued...

Last week I shared four teacher Ah-ha moments. curated from the previous twelve months. Ah-ha moments that have been a result of the work we have done together.
For me, it is about empowering teachers and leaders to innovate within their practice - to facilitate student learning in a way that grows the capability of the learner - to develop all-around learners and learning.

Through Deepen Teacher Inquiry - Teachers question - with curiosity - students about their learning so that gaps in the learning can be identified and filled. All done to help a student grow in their learning to reach certain milestones.

The beauty and uniqueness to the way I work with teachers around their inquiry explore, extract and evaluate are that it is lensed up in such a way as to grow curiosity around the learning process. Shifting thinking to a learning centred approach rather than an assessment centred approach. Co-learning creates mutual vulnerability and discovery. Co-learning forges a unique, powerful bond between teachers, leaders and students.
Curiosity - when cultivated in an organisation - has been found to accelerate learning through improved creativity, collaboration and communication in an organisation leading to elevated levels of inspiration, innovation and interaction between staff (HBR Aug - Sept 2018).

Ah-ha moments that have energized | enabled | empowered change to teacher practice.

You may recall from last week - when I asked teachers what the most valuable thing was for them in the work we did together - four themes if impact came through very strongly.

  1. The platform in which to innovate learning opportunities that deepen learning.

  2. The power of knowing the impact on learning.

  3. The vehicle that enabled and empowered a change in the way teachers work.

  4. The change in culture around collaboration between staff.

Let's have a look at the first one.

The power of knowing the impact on learning

  • Deepen Teacher Inquiry opens up opportunities to change how teachers teach.

"My inquiry design enabled me to think about, and look for, how students learn differently. I was able to explore the teaching process and its relationship to the learning process from multiple angles to build a greater understanding of what is happening regarding learning."

  • Deepen Teacher Inquiry re-lenses how we think about our impact. It is a powerful thinking tool for teachers to use to connect solutions to learning gaps.

“Deepen Teacher Inquiry gave me the tools to run ongoing inquiries to enhance the learning experience for my students. It enabled me to move away from the same old teaching process when it is evident there is a learning gap.”

  • Deepen Teacher inquiry enables and encourages the power of student's voice to grow a language of learning in a school and give learning outcomes a context.

“Deepen Teacher inquiry has made me rethink the goal post... and how success for my students looks. It is not always all about the assessment data.”

  • Deepen Teacher Inquiry challenges and stretches teacher capability in an empowering way.

“Deepen Teacher Inquiry has challenged my thinking around who I am as a professional. It encouraged and enabled me to seek evidence about learning that is outside of the standard learning outcomes measures. As a result, I become more connected to the learning of my students at a deeper level.”

Next week I will share teachers thoughts on Deepen Teacher Inquiry as the vehicle that enabled and empowered a change in the way teachers work.

Have a great holiday!
